Dr. Raad is considered one of the leading experts and physician inventors in the field of healthcare-related infections and infections in cancer worldwide. An Endowed Distinguished Chair and Professor of Medicine, Dr. Raad has chaired the University of Texas MD Anderson's Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Employee Health for 21 years. Over the last two decades, Dr. Raad has been widely honored for creative research, compassionate patient care and outstanding teaching and mentorship with more than 30 prestigious national and international awards, some of which are listed below. Dr. Raad has published over 525 scientific articles in high impact peer-reviewed journals and over 40 book chapters. He holds more than 125 issued patents and more than 20 provisional pending patents, most of which are already applied to patient care. Because of this, Dr. Raad ranks in the upper 1% of physician inventors at MD Anderson in terms of patent productivity. He co-authored CDC and IDSA Guidelines, on vascular Catheter-Related Infections from 2001 till now. In 1995 he served as an Advisory Reviewer of the United States Congress report on antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
